Melao es el álbum debut de Francisco Mela, un batería cubano que está residiendo actualmente en Nueva York y que también es profesor en el prestigioso Berklee College of Music.
El álbum presenta colaboraciones de los renombrados saxofonistas Joe Lovano y George Garzone, así como el guitarrista Lionel Loueke, tocando la joven y talentosa banda de Francisco Mela.
Grabado en los Estudios Systems Two de Nueva Cork, el CD presenta música original de Francisco Mela.
El título del álbum, Melao, es un modo de expresar las influencias más importantes de la música de Mela ( Cuba, Africa y Nueva York), así como la diversidad de orígenes de los músicos en la grabación (Norte y suramérica, Europa, Africa, Israel).
